Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain. This virus has infected thousands of people in different geographical areas of Mexico, due to migration, presence of competent vectors and the susceptibility of the population. Advance preparation for the early detection will allow an adequate response against the virus, identification and characterization of circulating viral strains possible outbreak, to minimize the risk of importation and transmission of the virus to the country.
