Ma Isabel Salazar Sánchez

Research Professor, National School of Biological Sciences, National Polytechnic Institute (Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas, Instituto Politécnico Nacional, México), SNI Level 1

I am a virologist working at the Laboratory of Cellular Immunology and Immunopathogenesis at the National School of Biological Sciences, National Polytechnic Institute in México (Laboratorio de Inmunología Celular e Inmunopatogénesis, Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biologicas, Instituto Politécnico Nacional). It is my interest to examine immunological response and inmunopathogenic events taking place during arboviral infections in humans. For dengue, I am mostly interested on those events that conduct to the capillary damage and hemorrhages in severe cases.

My team is also starting several projects on CHIKV and ZIKV, for some zika projects I am collaborating with Dr Arturo Reyes Sandoval and Dr César López Camacho, researchers at the Jenner Institute in University of Oxford. I also collaborate with researchers at many other institutions.

I am also interested in establishing how arboviruses modulate immunoresponse in their mosquito vector. As an academic, I am committed to bringing science to society through informative books, articles, blogs, exhibitions and conferences on viruses and other microbes. Finally, I spend a big amount of time preparing and learning from young grad students that pursue a career in science.
